Using copper tracks instead of wires being used to connect electrical components a printed circuit board or PCB is a think board. To fix the electrical components in position the Holes drilled in the board are used.

To secure them in the position they are then soldered and forming a circuit the copper tracks link them together. A PCB Assembly is what the components and the board together are known as.
